This Healey was the Gold Award winner in the 1992 “once-a-decade” Austin Healey Concours d’Elegance in Breckenridge, Colorado. This is due in large part to a superb quality restoration by its then owner in 1989. It was also featured in multiple magazine articles. The vehicle has been run only 3,740 miles since 1999 and has been carefully guarded ever since restoration, undergoing regular professional maintenance and service.
Designed for inexpensive fun, the Sprite became known as “Frogeye” (or “Bugeye” in the US), thanks to its distinctive inboard-mounted headlights. It is said that they were first conceived to flip up like a Porsche 928. Sprite owners had to make due without outside door handles and trunk lids. The simple dashboard and instrument display were in keeping with the Sprite's uncomplicated character. The one-piece hood allowed complete access to the Sprite’s engine, brakes and suspension.
