Description

Henry Ford famously introduced the assembly line in 1913, cutting the time it took to produce a Model T from 12 hours to just 93 minutes. Once competitors adopted this practice, they began catching up to Ford's success. By 1927, Ford realized it was time to adopt a new model, and the Model A was born.

If you grew up during the 1930s or later, and lived in an urban area, this was most likely how your family got its fruits and vegetables. Innumerable copies of the Ford Model A, either passenger cars or bare chassis, were converted into this sort of commercial-body specialty vehicle, known commonly as a “huckster.” This 1929 Ford Model A huckster appears to be a handsomely finished, well-accessorized example of what once was a standard part of retailing food. Fittingly, it’s equipped with a produce scale.

POWERTRAIN Every Model A was powered by Ford’s 221-cu.in. L-head inline four-cylinder engine. The carbureted engine had a compression ratio of 4.22:1, and was rated by the manufacturer at 40 horsepower. The engine in this Model A is original and it starts and idles easily, without smoke. The transmission changes gears easily. The engine bay is stock and virtually spotless.

EXTERIOR There are no blemishes to the paint or wooden huckster. The body has no seals, but there are no fluid leaks. This Model A is free of rust. The wooden huckster bodywork, with roll-up side curtains, is in excellent condition. The radiator shell is equipped with a stone guard. The windshield, the vehicle’s only glass, is in good shape. The headlamps and directional signals are functional. The underside is nearly spotless.

INTERIOR The material on the Model A’s front seat is in excellent condition, with no visible tears or soiling. The floor properly has a rubber mat that is like new. The painted steel dashboard has an instrument bezel whose gauges are fully functional.

CHASSIS This Model A's chassis components are in good condition, and there are no issues with suspension functionality. The tires are in excellent condition.
